What You Are Buying Into – The Coffee Sniffer’s Roast Beans – 250g Packs

You’re buying a hand picked, hand processed coffee that is roasted in small batches to ensure that quality always comes first.  Each batch creates enough ground coffee for 100 packs of 250 grams of The Coffee Sniffer’s Roasted Beans, so the final output is just a little over 25 kilos.  The only part of the entire process that actually uses any form of mechanisation is filling the individual packs.

What You Are Not Buying

An over priced, highly automated, mechanically processed coffee that is being sold to consumers at massive markups from the price paid to the coffee grower.  We have no issues with transparency on what we do.  For pack of 250g roasted coffee beans that retail customers pay ¥78.88 for – our gross profit is ¥7.8872.  That’s gross profit, so business operating expenses are paid from that.  Feel free to do your own maths on this.  13% sales tax on the gross sale, ¥15 average to ship the end product with JD, boxes to ship, packaging for the product, labels, printing etc – we even pay a fee to WeChat to take your payment.

For us.  Beanhardi was never about making money.  It was about breaking even to bring world class coffee to the masses, and realistic prices, while ensuring that coffee growers get what they deserve. The Coffee Sniffer’s Roast Beans are an example of that commitment.

Our Process

Most people don’t realise how much actually goes into processing coffee – the part where coffee fruits are changed into the “beans” that we all know.  We have our own take on this process and that’s why we believe our coffee tastes so unique.  Flavour first is our approach and we really believe that everyone will be able to taste the difference.

That is a really nice cup.
It has a deep aromatic flavour, and I would guess that there is far more robusta present than arabica.

It reminds me of a very nice Javanese or Sumatran bean.
There are two brands of Starbucks coffee which I think stand out from all the others, one of them is the house blend, which is good worldwide, and the other is the Sumatran; yours is certainly on a par with Starbucks Sumatran.

It has a good heavy roast which brings out the chocolate/cocoa butter oils. It has a good earthy flavour, with either light floral or vegetal notes at the beginning, but these are quickly drowned out by the full body, and this is the whole point of a deep roast. Maybe there’s a touch of lime at the end, but the full body makes it difficult to detect.

Also, it dries the lips nicely after a drink, but it doesn’t strip the palate’s ability to taste sensitivity afterwards. This coffee would be perfect with, say, a full English or full American breakfast.

If I’m going to be critical, then I probably didn’t make it strong enough to get and espresso type flavour out of it, and this is what I will try next time. I would love to put this through a machine that has 15+ bars of pressure. It would be absolutely perfect. Also, given my comment about the lime of the taste, I will squeeze no more than a couple of drops of fresh lime into the next cup just to see how it drives..

Overall, in my opinion, this compares extremely well with anything on the market. I would compare it to the top of the end Lavazza bean, and as superior to the standard Illy bean. Both of these products are more expensive than yours.

You have an excellent product in your hand and it is very competitively priced, probably under priced.

Congratulations on bringing I high-quality product on the market. This will suits a deeper more pensive morning mood, along side some citrusy/fruity coffees for lighter mornings.

The overall 4 star rating is made of 4/5 for quality, and 5/5 for value.

Von Beanhardi has in one instant turned me to a coffee drinker that doesn’t add milk or sugar. Having relied heavily on both for my coffee in the past, suddenly I find myself craving a single, well brewed cup of Von Beanhardi’s medium roasted coffee beans (or should I say seed) without the need for multiple cups throughout the day. It is a cup with some umpf but not too overpowering. Strong but not bitter (as I said no sugar needed). I love the individual servings at just under 6 RMB a cup but have just got in the beans which are amazing through a Bialetti. The beans are roasted and shipped out just days later and I have never had such freshly roasted coffee in my life. Great quality and well worth a try. Thanks to the coffee sniffer, Von Beanhardi!
